At 9:42 a.m this morning. The Ferdinand Police Department responded to the Ferdinand Elementary School for a lockdown situation concerning a suspicious male at the playground. School officials approached the subject, described as an Asian male.
A school official attempted to talk with him and then the man proceeded to walk behind a utility building east of the school. Officers arrived on the scene, entered the building, and initiated a check of the building, but found that all was secure. The subject was later located three blocks from the school and an interpreter was called due to a language barrier.
Upon speaking with the subject through the interpreter, it was determined that no threat existed at any time to the school.  Elementary staff responded appropriately to the situation and the school return to normal operations. Assisting were members of the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department.
