A Ferdinand man was arrested last night on OWI and Possession Charges.

Thursday, a Ferdinand police officer was checking the vehicle speeds on Industrial Park Road near West 3rd Street. He eventually saw a 2018 International Truck going southbound down a hill at a high rate of speed. The truck was going 57 miles per hour in a 35 miles per hour zone. The officer then initiated a stop.

While speaking with the driver of the vehicle, who was later identified as Ishal Elyahu of Ferdinand, the officer smelled marijuana. Field sobriety tests were done and a search of the vehicle was conducted. This resulted in the officer finding approximately 6 grams of marijuana. Elyahu then consented to a chemical test after stating that he had recently smoked marijuana. He was then taken to Memorial Hospital and given a chemical test. This tested positive for THC.

Elyahu was taken to and booked into the Dubois County Security Center on charges of a Class C Misdemeanor count of Operating While Intoxicated and a Class A Misdemeanor Count of Possession a Controlled Substance
