The Huntingburg Volunteer Fire Department sprang into action twice yesterday.

The department’s first call was for reports of a smoldering tree off of East First Street west of County Road 75 West around 10:20 am.

Fire Chief Scott Patberg says lightning struck the tree causing it to smolder.

With the help of a Love Excavating Tractor, 10 firefighters and three trucks were able to put out the fire in about 45 minutes.

Another call came in at around 9:23 pm for a fryer grease fire at Wendy’s restaurant on Main Street.

According to Chief Patberg, the fire was out when they arrived.

14 firefighters, four trucks, and the Huntingburg Police Department were on the scene for 20 minutes
