The Town of Ferdinand celebrated the spirit of community and service on Wednesday evening at the first-ever Ferdinand Community Banquet, an event hosted by the Ferdinand Merchant’s Association that many hope will become a cherished annual tradition. The evening was marked by heartfelt recognition of two remarkable women who have left indelible marks on the town through their selflessness and dedication.

Peggy Amos-Huff, a retired educator from Forest Park Junior-Senior High School, was honored with the “Excellence in Leadership” Award. Town Councilwoman Debbi Johnson presented the award, emphasizing the profound impact Amos-Huff has had not only in the classroom but throughout the community. From her involvement with various organizations, such as the Friends of the Ferdinand Library, to her unwavering commitment to nurturing the town’s youth, Amos-Huff’s legacy of leadership is woven into the fabric of Ferdinand.

The “Community Spirit” Award was presented to Ann Weyer, a figure of steadfast dedication within the town and her Christ the King Parish. Deacon James King delivered the introduction, repeatedly returning to a simple yet powerful statement Weyer made decades ago: “This is what I do.” These words, embodying her lifelong commitment to placing service before self, resonated throughout the room, reminding all in attendance of the quiet strength that defines true community spirit.

Adding to the evening’s agenda, Lauren Mundy, President of the newly established Framing Ferdinand, delivered a presentation outlining the non-profit’s goals and aspirations for the coming year, highlighting the organization’s vision for enriching the town’s future.

Ferdinand Town Council President Ken Sicard concluded the evening with a “State of the Town” address, reflecting on recent accomplishments and sharing plans for upcoming projects that promise to further strengthen and grow the community in the years ahead.
