The Indiana Secured School Safety Board has approved the distribution of over $24 million to enhance school safety across all 92 counties. This year, the Board allocated funds to 499 schools and districts, marking a record number of recipients for the Secured School Safety Grant Program in a single year. Since its inception in 2013, the program has awarded $187 million in state funding.

For the 2024-2025 period, the allocation of funds was prioritized for first-time applicants and capped for charter school groups. Requests exceeded available funds, with schools receiving varying amounts based on their priority requests. The majority of funds were directed towards the hiring of school resource officers, while a portion was allocated for firearms training, as required by recent legislation.

The Secured School Fund is managed by the Indiana Department of Homeland Security. Detailed information on the recipient schools and their awards will be available on the IDHS website starting September 1. The grant program includes matching funds for items such as school resource officers, equipment, technology, and student support services.
