Freedom Reins Therapeutic Riding Center is dedicated to enhancing the lives of children and adults with disabilities through equine-assisted therapy. By pairing individuals with horses, the center offers a unique sense of freedom and independence while helping participants achieve physical, psychological, cognitive, behavioral, and communication goals.
The center’s services run weekly from March 5 to November 20, 2025, but the work behind the scenes continues year-round. Freedom Reins is now seeking volunteers for its Winter Volunteer Program to keep their horses active and cared for during the off-season.
Starting January 11, volunteers can join Saturday morning sessions from 10:00 to 11:30 AM at Freedom Reins, located at 1077 N. Meridian Road in Jasper. Activities include grooming, groundwork, horseplay, and basic arena patterns. No prior horse experience is needed, making this a perfect opportunity for anyone interested in learning more about horses and their role in helping individuals with disabilities.
Volunteers can participate in one or multiple sessions, with scheduling required to ensure a smooth experience for all. The program wraps up in February with specialized training sessions focusing on enhancing the rider experience, including horse leader and side walker training and techniques for supporting riders with disabilities.
Freedom Reins may also offer Wednesday evening sessions based on interest. For more information or to register, contact Barb by calling or texting 574-780-1807.
Freedom Reins relies on the dedication of volunteers to make its mission a reality, providing a transformative experience for individuals with disabilities and those who support them.
