Indiana has reached a major milestone in early childhood education, as every child under the age of five is now eligible to receive a free book each month through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Indiana.

First Lady Maureen Braun announced this week that the program is now officially available in all 92 counties, ensuring statewide access for Hoosier families. The initiative provides high-quality, age-appropriate books mailed directly to children from birth through age five at no cost.

The expansion marks a significant step forward in promoting early literacy, with state leaders emphasizing the long-term impact of reading at a young age. The program is designed to help children build foundational skills while also encouraging family engagement through shared reading experiences.

Governor Mike Braun credited the First Lady’s efforts in helping bring the program to full statewide coverage, highlighting the importance of providing young children with the tools they need to succeed.

The initiative is made possible through a partnership involving the Dollywood Foundation, the State of Indiana, the Hoosier HOPE Foundation, and local program partners who help implement and sustain the effort in communities across the state.

With the program now fully available statewide, Indiana joins a growing number of areas working to strengthen early childhood literacy and ensure children have access to books from an early age.
