The Jasper Public Library has announced its May 2026 list of events and activities being held.

  • Family Storytime – Tuesdays at 10am – Families are invited to weekly Storytime at the library. The group always enjoys some great books that go with the theme of the week, as well as crafts, activities, songs, and more.
  • Genealogy Help Desk – Tuesdays from 10am-4pm
  • Curiosity Café for Teens – Thursdays at 4pm – Teens will enjoy a variety of different activities each week including snacks, crafts, and games.
  • Pickle Party – Saturday, May 2nd from 10:00 am-11:30 am – Calling all pickle fans! Join for a Pickle Party packed with quirky, dill-ightful fun. From hands-on activities to tasty experiments, there is something for every level of pickle enthusiasm. Come celebrate all things pickled with the library.
  • Homeschool Connections – End of Year Party – Monday, May 4th from 1:00 pm-2:30 pm – Homeschool families are invited to join for a fun end-of-the-year celebration as the group wraps up their learning season together. Attendees will spend the afternoon making connections, celebrating creativity, and enjoying time within the homeschool community. When you register, make sure to only register your child/children. Adults are welcome to attend, but do not need to register.
  • Traveling for Genealogy Research – Tuesday, May 5th from 10:00 am-11:30 am – Share your stories regarding research trips you have taken – the challenges, successes, and pitfalls as you looked for family history information. Provide information on good research places, and any lessons learned about your research process. Learn about places to consider researching and formats for getting the most out of your research time.
  • Knot Just Knitting – Wednesday, May 6th from 11:00am-1:00 pm – This group will meet on the 1st Wednesday morning each month to enjoy knitting and other needlecrafts. Bring your needlecrafts and come share tips, hints, and conversation.
  • Craft Lab – Wednesday, May 6th from 3:30 pm-5:00 pm – The library opening their craft stash and turning it into a Creative Buffet – and you’re invited! Stop by and explore a wide variety of leftover supplies from past programs. Think of it like a build-your-own craft adventure… you choose the materials, you choose the project, and you bring your ideas to life!
  • Create and Celebrate Mom – Grades K and up – Wednesday, May 6th from 6:00 pm-7:00 pm – Kids can join in to make this Mason jar craft for mom or someone special in the family for Mother’s Day. All supplies will be provided. Sign-up is required.
  • Crime and Bingo – Friday, May 8th from 10:00 am-11:30 am – Start your day with a little mystery at Crime and Bingo. Put your detective skills to the test as your work through three puzzling cases, gathering clues, and trying to uncover the culprit… all while playing bingo at the same time. Every round brings new twists, new suspects, and new chances to win.
  • LEGO Robotics – Saturday, May 9th from 2:00 pm-3:30 pm – Lego Robotics is a structured program and not a free-play event. Participants must be willing and able to follow instructions and work through several projects before moving on to more difficult LEGO Robotics sets. This program is reserved for ages 8 and above – No exceptions will be made. Children do best when an adult assists them in working through the projects.
  • Gardening 1-2-3’s for Tomatoes and Peas – Tuesday, May 12th from 6:00 pm-7:00 pm – Join the library for a practical and beginner-friendly gardening program with Kenny Eck, Extension Educator in Agriculture and Natural Resources with Purdue Extension, who will guide attendees through the simple essentials of growing two garden favorites – tomatoes and peas. From planting tips, to care basics, to common troubleshooting, this is perfect for anyone looking to start or improve their garden.
  • Baby Storytime – Ages 24 months and under – Thursday, May 14th from 10:00 am – 11:00 am – Ages birth through 24 months and their caregivers can join for stories, songs, rhymes, and playtime.
  • Lunch/Learn/Listen – Thursday, May 14th from 12:00 pm-1:30 pm – Have lunch or a snack (bring your own) with other family researchers while participating in a discussion about various topics, inquire and assist others in answering specific questions, share favorite websites, materials, repositories, etc.
  • Afternoon Book Club – Thursday, May 14th from 3:00 pm-4:00 pm – Join the Afternoon Book Club – New members are always welcome. Stop by the Information Desk at the library to pick up the book club monthly read anytime.
  • Peaceful Patterns Coaster – Thursday, May 14th from 6:00 pm-7:30 pm – Slow down and get creative at Peaceful Patterns Coaster. You will design your own mandala-style coaster using diamond art techniques. Place tiny, shimmering gems to build a beautiful pattern, one dot at a time. It’s a calming, satisfying process, and you will leave with a handmade coaster that sparkles.
  • Bingo and Coffee – Friday, May 15th from 10:00 am-11:30 am – All adults and teens are invited to join for bingo and coffee. There will be prizes for the winners. This is a free event with no registration required.
  • Stay and Play – Ages 2 to 5 – Monday, May 18th from 10:00 am-11:30 am – Children ages 2 to 5 are invited to stop in anytime between 10:00 am and 11:30 am to enjoy the library’s toys in the programming room. This is a perfect time for children to use their imagination and for children and parents/caregivers to socialize.
  • Bookworms Book Club – Monday, May 18th from 4:00 pm-5:00 pm – Book club members in grades 2-4 will be discussing the book that was given out at the April meeting. There will be snacks and other activities to go with the book. The May meeting will be the last one until after summer.
  • Adventurescapes: Puerto Rico – Tuesday, May 19th from 6:00 pm-7:30 pm – Exploring 250 years of American History: Adults and teens are invited to join for the library’s monthly journey celebrating 250 years of American history. Each month, the group will travel to a different U.S. region using senses to explore the people, places, and stories that shaped the nation. This program is free and requires no registration.
  • Knot Just Knitting – Wednesday, May 20th from 5:00 pm-7:30 pm – This group will meet on the 3rd Wednesday evening each month to enjoy knitting and other needlecrafts. Bring your needlecrafts and come share tips, hints, and conversation.
  • Summer Reading Kick-Off Celebration – Tuesday, May 26th from 10:00 am-12:00 pm – Summer starts here! The library is kicking off Summer Reading in the BEST way possible! Join in for a celebration packed with a giant bouncy slide, popsicles, fun games for all ages, and bubbles everywhere. Stop by, grab your Summer Reading sheets, and jump into a season full of fun, prizes, and adventure.
  • JPL Evening Book Club – Tuesday, May 26th from 6:00 pm-7:00 pm – Join the discussion. Stop by the library and check out a copy of this month’s book selection from the library staff. New members are always welcome.
  • Craft Lab – Wednesday, May 27th from 10:00 am-11:30 am – Create something magical. Each week brings a brand-new project created to let you build, design, explore, and experiment with different materials and techniques. Craft lab is all about trying something new.
  • Boom! Fizz! Pop! – Stem for Ages 3-6 – Wednesday, May 27th from 6:00 pm-7:00 pm – Kids will have a lot of fun with this month’s stem program. The group will be doing awesome things like fizzing ice cubes, paint explosion bas, elephant toothpaste and more. Sign up is required and opens May 11th.
  • Baby Storytime – Ages 24 months and under – Thursday, May 28th from 10:00 am – 11:00 am – Ages birth through 24 months and their caregivers can join for stories, songs, rhymes, and playtime.
  • Kids Stars & Stripes Bingo Bash – Ages 4-10 – Saturday, May 30th from 10:00 am – 11:00 am –The library invites kids ages 4-10 to join in for some fun bingo to celebrate America’s 250th birthday. Participants an play 2 different kinds of bingo, using numbers for one game and patriotic pictures for the other. They will have special games for the winners of each round to participate in. Prizes will be given to the winners, and all participants will go home with a small prize. A patriotic craft will also be available to do at the event or to take home. No sign up is needed. Come join the fun!
