Tuesday afternoon the Jasper Community Arts Commission discussed various topics from personnel decisions to selecting artistic performances.

The Willis Clan from Nashville, TN was the group that was brought up at the commission meeting where the board approved to book the musical family who consist of 12 children and their parents. This group is also known for having a reality show titled The Willis Family reality show on TLC (The Learning Channel).

After discussing other business the commission gave the floor to department personnel to provide reports and updates.

Education Coordinator, Donna Schepers, talked about the collaboration between the Arts Commission, Vincennes University-Jasper Campus, and the Greater Jasper Consolidated School Corporation. Schepers says each is involved with the Kennedy Center Partnership.

Schepers says she and Jasper Arts Director Kit Miracle are team members representing the Arts Commission,   Superintendent Dr. Tracey Lorey and Board President Nancy Habig representing the Greater Jasper Consolidated Schools, and Dr. Chris Gray with Vincennes University-Jasper Campus, which collectively approved the personal growth points and coordinated the workshops.

Schepers also noted that it was Dr. Lorey who first got the ball rolling as far as providing the professional development for teachers.

Schepers says another topic of interest that involves the partnership through the Kennedy Center was the participation the city of Jasper will have with a fiber-glass bison.

Schepers says other communities and cities round the state of Indiana will be commissioning other 5 ft tall bison and Jasper’s will be part of this bicentennial artistic tribute to celebrate Indiana.
