Officials with the Indiana Department of Transportation say beginning this week State Road 257 between Washington and Otwell will see a full closure for bridge work.

Beginning on or around tomorrow June 1st, contractors will close the north and southbound highway as they resume a road reconstruction project that began last fall. INDOT says work on this phase will require a full closure as contractors reconstruct the approaches to the bridge spanning Veale Creek.

They say depending upon weather conditions, the closure is expected to last until early July. During that time, local traffic will have access to the point of closure, but all through traffic will need to use nearby State Road 57 at Petersburg.

INDOT says once bridge work is complete, 257 will remain an active work zone utilizing partial lane closures as contractors reconstruct the 13-mile stretch from Washington south to Otwell. The project is expected to last through the fall.
INDOT urges motorists to slow down and stay alert near crews.

Motorists can learn about highway work zones and other traffic alerts at indot.carsprogram.org, by calling 800-261-ROAD or 511 from a mobile phone.
