The 38th Jasper Strassenfest was in full attendance by many from the community and also visiting guests. One of the key points of the opening ceremony was the proclamation given by Jasper Mayor Terry Seitz.

The proclamation was one of the highlights at the Strassenfest and Indiana gubernatorial candidate Eric Holcomb was present to witness this occasion. Holcomb speaks on the significance of a traditional event such as the Strassenfest and having communication with its Jasper residents.

20160804_171522Holcomb was also present at the Train Depot prior to the Strassenfest opening ceremony to speak at the Trump/Pence Rally put on by the Dubois County GOP who were handing out signs and T-shirts to supporters.

During the opening ceremony the 2016 Miss Jasper Strassenfest Vanessa Hickman gave a speech as she shares here experience in representing a city like Jasper as she was join by the rest of the court and pageant participants that were also acknowledge on stage.20160804_184241

Another momentous occasion at the opening ceremony was the speech from the Co-Hoffmarschall (Grand Marshals) , Dave and Janet Kluemper , who commemorated the German immigrants as the foundation of what is now Jasper and also encouraged the community to embrace the new wave of immigrants who are arriving with the same search of home and community that the Jasper ancestors held when they arrived.

The Kluempers also encourage the community of Jasper and guests to visit the Dubois County Museum to have a more in depth awareness of its rich history.

Those who were responsible for putting on such a grand event includes Andrea Gramelspacher, 2nd -year Strassenfest Chairperson, the Jasper Strassenfest Committee, and the many vendors, volunteers, and participants who invest in the fest each year. Gramelspacher shared that she remains honored to partake in such a traditional and important event such as the Strassenfest and be trusted with its execution.
