With the start of the 2017 legislative session right around the corner. Soon, the Indiana General Assembly will convene to tackle a wide range of issues facing our state.

District 48 State Senator Mark Messmer of Jasper says the main focus of the General Assembly this year will be passing the state’s next two-year budget. In addition, the legislature will be working to pass a variety of bills that will address issues like funding road infrastructure, combating illegal drugs in our state and ensuring our students and teachers have the tools they need to succeed.

Messmer says before a bill comes to the floor of the Indiana State Senate, it must first be discussed in a committee….

By serving as the Commerce and Technology Committee chair, Messmer will guide the committee as they look for ways to align public policy with the world today. Messmer says the advancement of technology has impacted the state’s economy, and that the legislature must ensure they are doing everything possible to continue to make Indiana a great place to live, work and raise a family…..
