The gavel banged one last time Monday afternoon as longtime Greater Jasper Consolidated School Board member and President Nancy Habig presided over her final meeting.

Habig as been a member of the Greater Jasper School board since 1984 and has served as the board’s president since 2000. She decided not to run for re-election in the November General Election.

Monday’s meeting began with a video tribute in Habig’s honor with comments from Greater Jasper Superintendent Dr. Tracy Lorey  and Jasper High School Guidance Director Sean Jochim (YO-CUM).

Each of Habig’s fellow board members as well as Lorey took a moment to offer comments, tributes and praise as well as thank Habig for her mentorship and dedication to the Jasper district over the last 32 years.

Habig says the more than three decades have been challenging yet rewarding and fun….

 


Bernie Vogler has been alongside Habig as a member of the Greater Jasper Board for the past 18 years.

Vogler says it’s been a pleasure to work with Habig over that period of time and says she has an even keel about herself and that has helped lead to the success of the Greater Jasper School system……

 

Dr. Lorey has been a part of the Greater Jasper District for the past 23 years as a teacher, principal , curriculum director and now superintendent the last 5 years.

Lorey says Habig has always had an open mind about considering all the perspectives of the many different issues and ideas that have come before the board for consideration during the time the two have worked together…..

 

Habig will be replaced by newcomer and Jasper attorney Tim DeMotte who defeated Mark Kunkel for Habig’s seat during last month’s election.

Demotte will join the Greater Jasper School Board when they gather for their annual organizational meeting Friday January 6th.
