Alvin John Niehaus, 98, of Saint Meinrad, passed away, Saturday, January 14, 2017, at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand.

Alvin was born July 6, 1918 to Frank and Mary Elizabeth (Brockman) Niehaus in Siberia, IN. He married Francis Rasche on August 9, 1947 in St. Ferdinand Church.

She preceded him in death on June 8, 1993.

Alvin was a member of Saint Meinrad Catholic Church Parish. He enjoyed cooking and wood working. He was a retired mechanic. Alvin served in WWII and was a recipient of the Bronze Star.

He is survived by four sons, Ron (Patti) Niehaus of New Jersey, Dennis (Martha) Niehaus of Bretzville, Tim and Rich Niehaus both of Saint Meinrad; two daughters, Patty (Steve) Grant of Peoria, IL. and Jane (Pat) Hellmann of Alexandria, IN.; eleven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren also survive. Alvin was preceded in death by his wife, Frances; six brothers, Raymond, Amil, Sylvester, Louis, Arthur and Pete Niehaus; four sisters Helen, Marie, Ester and Sally.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:00 AM CDT in Saint Meinrad Catholic Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Saint Meinrad Legion Post 366 will conduct military graveside rights.

Visitation will be Tuesday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand from 1-7:00 PM CDT and Wednesday at the church from 9:00 AM CDT until time of services.
