Late yesterday evening, deputies were dispatched to an intoxicated male destroying property at 11443 Whisper Pine Rd. The caller also stated that he had battered his girlfriend earlier in the evening.

While en route, deputies and a Huntingburg Officer saw a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle heading north on US 231 near CR 900 S. The Huntingburg Officer made a traffic stop on the vehicle, which the driver was suspect Juan Avalos. The Huntingburg Police Department Officer determined that Avalos was intoxicated and had a suspended license.

Deputies continued to the scene where they located a female who had been battered. The female subject had bruising to her face, throat, arm and leg. Avalos had also broken out a window of the trailer at that location.

Avalos was charged with a Level 6 Felony Count of Strangulation, a Level 6 Felony Count of Domestic Battery in the presence of a child, a Class B Misdemeanor Count of Criminal Mischief, A Level 6 Felony Count of Operating While Intoxicated with a Prior Conviction, and a Class A Misdemeanor Count of Driving While Suspended.
