Gov. Eric Holcomb is directing that flags be lowered to half-staff at government buildings in two western Indiana counties on the day of the funeral for a police officer who was killed in the line of duty.
Holcomb also asked Monday that residents and businesses in Vigo and Sullivan counties fly their flags at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Wednesday to honor Patrolman Robert Shawn “Rob” Pitts.
Pitts, a 16-year veteran of the Terre Haute Police Department, died following Friday’s shootout with a homicide suspect. Officials say the 45-year-old was among four officers who were fired upon Friday night by 21 year-old Christopher A. Wolfe of New Goshen. Wolfe died after barricading himself inside an apartment.
Pitts’ funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Indiana State University’s Hulman Center.
