Officials and board members of the Greater Jasper Consolidated School Corporation will officially break ground on the newly planned Jasper Elementary School next Monday May 21st at 9:30 am.

The new facility will be located along North Portersville Road on land located just north of the Jasper Middle School.
The 111,132 square foot elementary school will be home to about 850 pre-kindergarten to fifth-grade students from Fifth Street and Tenth Street elementary schools.

The school’s design will include enhanced safety features and will incorporate learning environments conducive to small group instruction and STEM exploration.

The building will also include larger spaces such as a stage that could be utilized for community meetings, presentations and performance events.

The core of the future building will connect the four sections of the school and encompass spaces that all students can access. These include the gymnasium, cafeteria, media center, special area classrooms and administration offices.
The new elementary will be outfitted with security cameras and will feature secure entrances that bring guests into a holding area before they sign in at the office.

It is expected to be ready for the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year.

The idea of constructing a new, combined elementary school was conceived after the Greater Jasper School Board learned from a study that it would cost nearly $20 million in necessary repairs at Fifth Street School and Tenth Street Elementary schools.

Attendees and special guests will be permitted to park at the Church of the Nazarene on nearby Ackerman Road for the ceremony.
