A Huntingburg man was taken into custody after police completed their investigation of a theft that took place late last week at a Jasper convenience store.

Last Thursday officers with the Jasper Police Department were called to the report of a theft in progress at the Third Avenue Huck’s.

Police say the suspect later identified as 38-year old Chad Klein of Huntingburg had left the store before officers arrived, however, they located a vehicle they say Klein left in a short time later and conducted a traffic stop.

Police say Klein was a passenger in the vehicle and matched the description of the suspect from the store.

Police say video surveillance indicated he was concealing items in his pockets.

Police say Klein had stolen a package of fish hooks valued at $3.20. They also say Klein had an active warrant out of Spencer County for a probation violation.

He was taken to and booked into the Dubois County Security Center on a misdemeanor count of theft.
