Senior officers with the Jasper Police Department have announced a pair of recent promotions that have taken place from within the department ranks. The promotions are effective this month.

Sgt. Jeremy Lee has been promoted as the department’s Detective Sergeant following the recent retirement of previous Det. Sgt. Rick Chambers.

Meanwhile Patrol Officer First Class Aaron Persohn has been promoted to Sergeant to replace Lee in that position.

Now both promotions involved intensive interviews by Jasper Chief of Police Mike Bennett, Assistant Chief Nathan Schmitt, Cale Knies, the Director of Personnel/Safety & Loss Control for the City of Jasper and the Jasper Board of Public Works & Safety which oversees the Jasper Police Department.

 

JEREMY LEE

Lee began his career with the Jasper Police Department as a Communications Officer in 1991 and was hired as a police officer in 1993. Since then, Lee has been involved in the department and the community. In 2012, Officer Lee was promoted to Sergeant to lead a team of nine officers.

In over 22 years with the Jasper Police, Lee has served as Secretary on the Jasper Police Department Pension Board. He has been a department Training Coordinator, Certified Field Training Officer, was a member of the Emergency Response Team for seven years, an Indiana Law Enforcement Academy Certified Instructor with Certifications to teach Domestic Violence, Critical Incident Management, Active Shooter Response, and Emergency Vehicle Operations.

He is also a guest instructor at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy as well as the Southwest Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. Lee is also a Certified School Resource Officer.

 

AARON PERSOHN
Sergeant Persohn will take over a squad of 9 officers. Persohn started his career with the Jasper Police Department as a Communications Officer in 2004 and was hired as a Jasper Police Officer in 2005.

In 11 years as a First-Class Police Officer, Persohn has been very involved in the department, the schools and community as a Field Training Officer and a firearms Instructor.

He recieved a General Instructor Certification in 2013, and has been an Emergency Response Team Member since 2007.

He took part in a Police Observer Sniper Course graduating as a Top Sniper and graduated 4th in the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy

Lee’s promotion was effective February 7th, Persohn’s will take effect February 28th.
