December 7th, 1941 was the day that the Empire of Japan led an air raid on Pearl Harbor, in the not then yet a US state, Hawaii Territory, killing more than 2300 Americans and completely destroying the U.S.S. Arizona and capsizing the U.S.S. Oklahoma.

The attack left a total of 12 ships at the bottom of the harbor, with more than 160 aircraft destroyed and over 150 others damaged.

Here is an excerpt from President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s famous speech the day after the attacks on Pearl Harbor.

Here in Indiana Governor Holcomb is directing flags across the state to be flown at half- staff for Pearl Harbor Day tomorrow. December 7th, 2017.

Over the course of WWII Dubois county suffered the loss of 43 veterans. Spencer County suffered the loss of 49 veterans, Daviess County suffered the loss of 59 veterans and Martian County suffered the loss of 23 veterans.

Flags should be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Thursday.

Gov. Holcomb has also asks businesses and residents to lower their flags to half-staff to commemorate the days history.
