Dubois County Emerging Leaders have selected The Next Act as this year’s recipient of a $5,000 grant.

The Next Act is a newly formed local, nonprofit working to save the historic Astra Theatre in downtown Jasper and to foster, engage, and create cultural and artistic happenings in Dubois County.

Marc Steczyk is President of The Next Act. He says the grant gets the group even closer to reaching their phase one goal to purchase and endow the Astra.

Steczyk says they are grateful for the support from Dubois County Emerging Leaders and feel it validates their belief that their efforts are important to the young generation.

The Next Act is planning announcement to share a status update as well as inform the media of an important milestone in the group’s brief history Tuesday morning.

The Emerging Leaders Granting Party held last Thursday hosted nearly half of its fifty contributors and provided a forum to educate Emerging Leaders on the services, opportunities, and projects offered by Dubois County nonprofits.

Members voted through a two round process that included 22 local organizations. Organizations represented this year focused on a wide variety of community services ranging from youth and education to social services and arts and culture.

Emerging Leaders was established in 2012 as an innovative, yet simple, giving circle to pool resources to strengthen communities in Dubois County. Since it’s formation, Emerging Leaders has granted $23,000 back to the community.

Individuals can learn more and join the Giving Circle by calling the Dubois County Community Foundation at 812-482-5295 or online at www.ELgiving.org.
