According to firefighter authorities, a brush fire in a wooded area near Schnellville sent firefighters with the Schnellville Volunteer Fire Department into action Monday afternoon.

Around a quarter after two the department responded to the woods fire at Schnell and Mentor Roads reported to the department by an engineer with the Dubois REC that was in the area.

Schnellville Fire Chief Mark Fischer says they discovered that a tree had taken down a REC power line igniting the blaze that initially burned about 4 acres of woods and brush in what Fischer called a very hilly terrain.

Once firefighters had the blaze knocked out, repairmen with the Dubois REC fixed the downed line and had soon restored service to the area.

No significant damage and no injuries were reported. 13 firefighters from the Schnellville department with four truck were assisted by the Birdseye Fire Department who provided 4 men and 2 trucks. Firefighters were on the scene for 90 minutes.
