Former Jasper Mayor Alles served the community for over a decade as Mayor of Jasper from January 1, 1980 thru December 31, 1991.

He was the 11th Mayor of Jasper from the total 13 mayors including current Jasper Mayor Terry Seitz.

He was honored with being a two time recipient of the Sagamore of the Wabash Award, once each by Governors Bayh and O’Bannon.

The term “Sagamore” was used by the American Indian Tribes of the northeastern United States to describe a lesser chief or a great man among the tribe to whom the true chief would look for wisdom and advice.

Governor Pence is also asking businesses and residents in Dubois County to lower their flags to half-staff to honor the life and service of former Mayor Jerome “Chick” Alles.
