Jasper police where busy over the weekend. On Saturday at 10:30 pm jasper police were dispatched to the southside McDonald’s in reference to a report of a disorderly intoxicated man.

When officers arrived they found 4o-year old Johnathon Franzell of Huntingburg. While trying to communicate with Franzell he continually was confrontational with cursing an yelling at the officers.

While police were speaking to Franzell he appeared lethargic and slurring his speech and also appeared to be under the influence of a narcotic. After several request to cease his actions Franzell still continued to refuse and maintained his yelling.

As officers extended their verbal request numerous times for Franzell to exit the restaurant. The officers then physically assisted him at which point he became combative and punched several officers.

Leading an officer to deploy his taser in an attempt to subdue Franzell. After he was placed in handcuffs and taken into custody. Franzell was searched and a hypodermic needle was found in his pocket.

Franzell continued to threaten the police while being placed into the squad car. He was taken to memorial hospital for medical clearance and then lodged in the Dubois County Security Center on multiple charges.

Franzell is being charged with: battery on public safety official with injury- level 5 felony; resisting law enforcement with injury-level 6 felony; possession of hypodermic needle-level 6 felony; intimidation-level 6 felony and disorderly conduct-class b misdemeanor. Jasper police were assisted by the Dubois County Sheriffs Dept.
