Virgil R. Lechner, age 82 of Jasper, IN, passed away at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday, January 19th, 2017 at Cathedral Health Care Center in Jasper, IN.

Virgil was born in Jasper, IN on December 14, 1934 to Henry and Philomenia (Gramelspacher) Lechner. He married JoAnn Durcholz on December 27, 1955 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland, IN.

Virgil was a real estate developer who developed the Lechner subdivision in Jasper, and he also worked as a self employed carpet layer and farmer.

He was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church.

He enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing cards, and going to yard sales and auctions.

Preceding him in death was one son, Jim Lechner. Virgil was the last survivor in his family of six sisters, Cordella Hopf, Florence Hurst, Eleanor Gogel, Rosetta Keusch, Marcella “Sally” Heim, and Ruth Schmitt, and one brother, Vincent Lechner.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Virgil R. Lechner will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 23, 2017, at Precious Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.

A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. service time at the church on Monday.
