A former longtime Jasper educator and school administrator has died.

89-year old Walter “Bill” Stutz passed away Monday at River Pointe Health Campus in Evansville

A native of Terre Haute, Mr. Stutz was a part of the Greater Jasper Consolidated School Corporation in many capacities for 36 years.

He started as a teacher and guidance counselor at Jasper High School in 1955. Served as principal of JHS from 1962 till 1969 when he became superintendent. He held that position for 22 years before his retirement in 1991.

It was during that time the Greater Jasper Corporation saw many changes and improvements. Especially in it’s facilities.

He oversaw the construction of the current Jasper High School St. Charles Street Campus which was completed in 1977 and with it the implementation of Jasper Middle School.

Also 5th Street School saw a major renovation that was completed in 1990.

He was bestowed with the Distinguished Educator Award at Jasper High School in 1999.

He also served his country in the US Army during the Korean War.

Bill is survived by his wife of 64 years Lois. They were the parents of four children, eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
