Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center has announced the names of the top six physicians nominated for the sixth annual Little Company of Mary Outstanding Physician Award. They are Karim Anwar, M.D., Adam Dawkins, M.D., Duane Flannagan, M.D., Mark Luff, M.D., Kevin Lusk, M.D., and Kristin Werne, M.D. This award is named in honor of the Sisters of Little Company of Mary, the sponsors of Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center.
This award is based on outstanding job performance reflecting Memorial Hospital’s Mission Statement and the Core Values of Respect for Human Dignity, Compassionate Caring, Stewardship, Quality and Justice. To be accepted as a nominee, a physician must be classified as a member of the hospital’s medical staff for a minimum of twelve months and be in good standing with the medical staff. The LCM Outstanding Physician Award will be presented by the Medical Staff President during the hospital’s Medical Staff Appreciation Banquet in April.
Dr. Karim Anwar received his medical degree at King Edward Medical College in Lahore, Pakistan. He completed his residency in internal medicine at University of Connecticut School of Medicine and completed a fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at University of Massachusetts School of Medicine. He is board certified in medical oncology, hematology and internal medicine, and was appointed to the active medical staff of Memorial Hospital in 2012. Dr. Anwar is an oncologist in the Lange-Fuhs Cancer Center at Memorial.
Dr. Adam Dawkins received his medical degree at Indiana University School of Medicine and completed a residency in internal medicine at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis where he also completed a fellowship in cardiology. He joined the active medical staff at Memorial Hospital in 2007, and is board certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease. Dr. Dawkins is a cardiologist at Heartland Cardiology, 440 Scott Rolen Drive in Jasper.
Dr. Duane Flannagan received his medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, and completed an internship at Baylor University Medical Center in Houston and a residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. He joined the active medical staff at Memorial Hospital in 1979 and is board certified in ophthalmology. Dr. Flannagan is an ophthalmologist at Southern Indiana Eye Associates, located at 200 St. Charles Street in Jasper.
Dr. Mark Luff earned his medical degree at Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis and completed his residency in family practice at the USAF Medical Center at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois. He joined the active medical staff at Memorial Hospital in 2002. Dr. Luff is a family medicine provider at Petersburg Family Medicine, 1003 East Illinois Street in Petersburg.
Dr. Kevin Lusk is a graduate of Indiana University School of Medicine and completed his residency at Community Hospitals in Indianapolis. He is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and joined the active medical staff at Memorial Hospital in 2003. Dr. Lusk is a family medicine provider at Ferdinand Family Medicine, 115 South Main Street in Ferdinand.
Dr. Kristin Werne received her medical degree at Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, and completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at St. Vincent Hospital. She is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She joined the active medical staff at Memorial Hospital in 2010. Her office is located at Jasper Obstetrics and Gynecology, 613 Dorbett Street in Jasper.
