Legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway Historian Donald Davidson, believed to be the only full-time historian employed at any race track in the world, will speak at a luncheon presented by the Rotary Club of Jasper next Thursday May 3rd.
The program will be held in the Theatre of the Center for Technology, Innovation and Manufacturing on the Vincennes University Jasper campus from 11:30 am till 1 pm.
The event is open to the public, and tickets must be purchased in advance on EventBrite or through the Rotary Club of Jasper’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/RotaryClubofJasperIndiana. Tickets are $15 per person, and will include a box lunch.
A passionate interest in the “500” since his early teens irresistibly drew the English-born-and-raised Davidson to the Speedway for a three-week visit in May 1964.
He returned from England permanently the following May and joined the worldwide IMS Radio Network broadcast for race day and also secured employment with the United States Auto Club, where he was a statistician and historian for the next 31 years. He continues to serve on the Radio Network.
In 2016, the Indianapolis Star proclaimed Davidson one of the
100 most influential people in the history of the Indianapolis 500, and was named a Sagamore of the Wabash by then Governor Mike Pence.
