Elsie E. Hutcherson, age 89 of Jasper, formerly of Indian Lake Reservoir, Indianapolis, passed away at 2:46 a.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2019, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper, Indiana.

Elsie was born on May 8, 1929 in Tompkinsville, KY to Luther and Ethyle (Pruitt) Short.  She married Elzie E. Hutcherson on 12/24/1946 in Indianapolis, IN.  He preceded her in death June 1988.

Elsie worked as one of the first female engineers for Western Electric Company in Indianapolis, IN, where she designed and built the first Princess telephone.  She also volunteered for the Ethyl Kennedy Children’s Olympics.

She was a member of the Church of Christ and the Indianapolis Indian Lake Association.

She enjoyed animals and working with children.

Surviving is one daughter, Caroline Jones (Mike), Jasper, IN.,  two sisters and one brother.

Preceding her in death beside her husband, was one son, Jim Hutcherson, and ten brothers and sisters.

Private services were held at Becher-Kluesner Funeral Homes in Jasper.
