A Jasper woman was placed under arrest on a number of charges late Thursday morning after she was accused of theft and being in possession of drug-related items as well as being uncooperative with authorities at a convenience store on the city’s southeast side.
Around 11:30 am yesterday officers with the Jasper Police Department were contacted by an employee at the Third Avenue Huck’s convenience store and told of a female shoplifter.
When officers arrived on the scene they made contact with a female identified as 38-year-old Tonya Gunn of Jasper who police say pulled a knife from her pocket.
Police say after multiple verbal commands to drop the weapon, Gunn continued to refuse and was eventually drive stunned with a Taser.
Police detailed Gunn and say upon being handcuffed, she made an attempt to flee out the door.
Gunn was first taken to Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center for medical clearance before being taken to the Dubois County Security Center where she was booked for theft, resisting law enforcement, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a legend drug and escape.
Officers with the Jasper Police Department were assisted at the scene by deputies with the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department.
