A Spencer County man is facing murder charges after a deadly shooting incident at a home in Grandview earlier this week.

Indiana State Police at Jasper says 52-year old Alan Bennett of Grandview has been formally charged with the murder of 64-year old Linda Bowman also of Grandview.

Bennett is being held in custody at an undisclosed hospital for a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Investigators believe it occurred when the murder happened.

The police were called to the 6200 block of North Highland Road in Grandview, regarding a report of shots fired on Wednesday afternoon.

When police arrived, they say Bowman was found shot in the head and that Bennett had serious injuries. Bennett was flown to a hospital for those injuries.

The coroner’s office says Bowman died from a single gunshot wound to the head.

Investigators say Bennett and Bowman were living together during the time of the incident.

Bennett will be taken to the Spencer County Jail once he’s released from the hospital.

Indiana State Police Investigators along with the Spencer County Prosecutors Office have worked tirelessly on this investigation over the last few days.

They say the support and patience from the community have been greatly appreciated as they continue to piece together the facts and circumstances of the tragic event.
