A failed to yield the right of way resulted in a two-vehicle accident at the US 231 and State Road 162 Bypass.
At around 11:30 AM today, Jowhar Ahmed Mohammed of Minnesota was headed southbound on US 231 in a Blue 2016 Freightliner. Meanwhile, Sue Hemmer of Jasper was driving east on State Road 162 with her passenger, Linda Burke, in a dark green 2018 Chevrolet Colorado truck.
Mohammed failed to stop at the red light at the bypass, which caused the front end of his Freightliner to collide with the front driver’s side of Hemmer’s Colorado. The truck was then propelled to the southwest corner of the intersection.
Mohammed was left unharmed, but Hemmer and Burke both complained of head and neck pain respectively. They were both transported to Memorial Hospital by Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services.
Mohammed’s Freightliner sustained approximately $15,000 in damages while Hemmer’s Colorado sustained approximately $20,000 in damages. Mohammed was cited for failing to yield the right of way.
Jasper Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department, Indiana State Police, Jasper Fire Department, Ruxer’s Wrecker Service, and Uebehlor Wrecker Service.
