The Friends of Lincoln State Park and Indiana Department of Natural
Resources will co-host the 10th annual Mr. Lincoln’s Neighborhood 5K Run/Walk on
Saturday, May 4 at 9:00 a.m. CDT in Lincoln State Park. This year’s 5K run/walk route will
start and end at the Lake Lincoln Beach parking lot. The route will consist of the paved park
roadways and some hiking trails. Prizes will be awarded to the first place male and female
finishers for both adults and kids under 16 as well as for the best Star Wars costume.
Random door prizes will also be awarded during the event. Prizes include two tickets to a St.
Louis Cardinals game, Indiana State Park annual passes, gift cards, gift certificates, $10 cash
prizes and more.

For the 10th anniversary version of the event, organizers have adopted a Star Wars theme.
“We wanted a new theme for our 5K to highlight the tenth anniversary of the event. Since
this year’s event falls on May 4th, it seemed only natural to adopt a “May the Fourth Be With
You” theme. This is a great opportunity for people of all ages to come out and kick-off the
summer season at Lincoln State Park while getting some exercise. Though not required, we
encourage participants to come as their favorite Star Wars character. The 5K is a fun and
easy way to support the many projects and events we do at the park through our Friends
group,” said Dan Wilkinson, president of the Friends of Lincoln State Park. “Our goals for
2019 include purchasing two kayak launch docks, planting new American chestnut trees near
the Bicentennial plaza, sponsoring a movie night at Lincoln Amphitheatre and hosting the
annual Fall Frolic events in October,” Wilkinson said.

The early registration fee will save entrants $10 by registering by the early deadline which
