Hydroplaning on wet pavement resulted in a two-vehicle accident Wednesday morning near the Huntingburg Airport on Highway 231.

18 year old, Katrina Peraza-Siberian of Dale was southbound on US 231 when her vehicle hydroplaned on the wet roadway, she lost control, went left of center, struck a guardrail, then went into the path of the northbound Honda Van driven by 42-year-old Thomas Yelton of Indianapolis.

The rear of Peraza-Siberian’s civic struck the front of Yelton’s van. The vehicles both came to rest in the roadway. A passenger in the Yelton van, 40-year-old Kari Davis of Indianapolis was transported by Memorial EMS to Memorial Hospital for treatment of her injuries. Those injuries are thought to be minor.

The drivers and other passengers, three in the Peraza-Siberian Honda Civic and two in the Yelton Honda van were uninjured and refused treatment at the scene. The roadway was blocked for about one hour while the scene was cleared. Both vehicles were a total loss.

Katrina Peraza-Siberian was charged with operating without financial responsibility.  The Dubois County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Indiana State Police, St Henry Fire Department First Responders, Sternberg’s Wrecker Service, and Kars Wrecker Service.
