Two people were arrested after a two-vehicle accident involving a semi on the north side of Jasper yesterday afternoon.

According to Jasper City Police, at around 5:30 pm Wednesday afternoon, 30-year-old Samantha Striegel of Jasper was traveling southbound in the 3700 block of Newton Street when she traveled left of center and struck a northbound 2015 Freightliner with a loaded trailer driven by 43-year-old Steven Davis of Chicago.

The impact caused approximately $3,000 dollars in damage to the semi and a total loss to Striegel’s 1999 Ford Taurus. Police say Striegel was entrapped in her vehicle and had to be extricated by the Jasper Fire Department.

Davis was uninjured in the incident, however, Striegel complained of clavicle and arm pain and was transported to Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper where it was later determined she had an outstanding warrant out of Dubois County and found to be under the influence of illegal drugs and driving with a suspended license.

While emergency crews were working the scene a male individual later identified as 31-year-old Matthew Cronin, who was a friend of Striegel, ran onto the scene and interfered with the investigation. After being walked away from the accident and given a verbal warning from officers, Cronin again ran onto the scene and began yelling at emergency personnel. Officers then attempted to place Cronin in handcuffs to which he resisted. Cronin was soon placed into custody and transported to the Dubois County Security Center and charged with resisting law enforcement, disorderly conduct, and refusing to leave an emergency scene.

The Jasper Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Jasper Fire Department, Memorial EMS, and first responders.
