The Dubois County Soil and Water Conservation Creek Sweep was yesterday.

In an effort to clear Dubois County of any and all litter and trash, volunteers went across the county and loaded trucks with trash that they found, including mattresses, televisions, bottles, and even deer heads.

The Dubois County Soil and Water Conservation District Director Judi Brown says that when they do creek sweeps, they find a lot in the county waterways.

During the creek sweep, the remains of a hunted deer were found among trash. Members of the Soil and Water Conservation District want to remind residents that when disposing of animal carcasses, it’s best to leave it in a wooded grounded area so it can become soil. If it gets left in the water, it can contaminate the drinking supply.

Brown says that volunteers have lots of fun volunteering and they feel a sense of pride when cleaning up the community.

Brown says that there’s a large amount of trash that goes unseen.

The Dubois County Soil and Water Conservation District holds their Creek Sweeps annually. 1,960 pounds of trash was collected.
