Lawrence P. Metz, age 92 of Celestine, Indiana passed away at 12:19 p.m. Monday, October 21, 2019, in Memorial Hospital & Health Care Center in Jasper.

He was born at Elon, Indiana (Now under water in Patoka Lake); To Herman and Lorena (Stemle) Metz.  He married Bernadine (Stetter) Jahn on November 23, 1978. She preceded him in death on August 28, 2002.

He retired as a machine room supervisor for Wood Design Furniture Company in French Lick, Indiana and did farming and previously worked in management for the Lilly Paper Company at New Albany Indiana.

He was honored as the oldest Male in the 175th Celestine Centennial Parade in Celestine in 2018.

Lawrence and Bernie enjoyed working in their ceramic shop at their home making Christmas items and many other gift items.  He was also an avid reader and loved gardening.

He is a member of St. Isidore Parish – St. Celestine Campus and the Celestine Knights of Columbus.

Surviving;

Son, Thomas Jahn and wife Victoria, Jasper, IN

Daughter, Mary Mendel and husband Don, St. Anthony, IN

Seven grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Sister-in-law, Elizabeth (Stetter) Egler, Bloomington, IN

Also preceding him in death; one sister, Marie Blessinger.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 26, 2019 in St. Celestine Catholic Church with burial to follow in St. Celestine Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. service time On Saturday, October 26, 2019,  at St. Celestine Catholic Church.  Memorial contributions may be made to St. Isidore Parish.
