Complaints of illegal drug activity helped put a Huntingburg couple behind bars this week.
Police visited a Huntingburg home on Wednesday to investigate the complaints further and to conduct a welfare check on a possible resident.
After arriving, police began talking with the female at the home, identified as April Blackwood, and found probable cause to search the residence.
During the investigation, William Blackwood, who was not present at the home when officers arrived, returned home. Both Mr. and Mrs. Blackwood remained in the home seated during the investigation. A search of the property by detectives found approximately 10.5 grams of methamphetamine, a sheet of LSD, approximately 78.4 grams of marijuana, narcotic medications without a valid prescription, along with numerous items of drug paraphernalia.
Dubois County Sheriff Tom Kleinhelter thanked the public for their vigilance at the time of the arrest. “I want to express my appreciation to the individual or individuals that made the crime tips that led to these arrests. It is always helpful for the public to let law enforcement know of suspected drug activity. It helps us as we work to eliminate these harmful and dangerous substances from our community,” said Kleinhelter.
Both William and April Blackwood was arrested following the search of the property and charged with the following:

- Possession of Methamphetamine between 10 & 28 grams (LEVEL 4 FELONY)

- Possession of Marijuana w/prior drug offense conviction (LEVEL 6 FELONY)
- Dealing in a Schedule I Controlled Substance (LEVEL 6 FELONY)
- Maintaining a Common Nuisance-Controlled Substance (LEVEL 6 FELONY)
- Possession of a Controlled Substance (CLASS A MISDEMEANOR)
