A four-vehicle crash in Jasper sent five people to the hospital.

It happened in front of the Dubois County Museum on North Newton Street on Tuesday afternoon.

The drivers of three vehicles, 37-year-old Megan Richer of Loogootee, 61-year-old Wendy Colglazier of Springville, and 24-year-old Jose Paredes Tobar of Jasper were traveling northbound on Newton Street and stopped for traffic.

42-year-old Sean Marek of Elnora was following too closely and was unable to come to a complete stop, rear-ending Richer.

This impact caused a chain reaction, causing Richer to rear-end Colglazier, who then rear-ended Tobar.

Richer, an adult passenger, and three juveniles who were riding with her at the time of the accident were transported to Memorial Hospital for minor injuries.

No other injuries were reported and Marek was cited for following too closely.

Marek’s and Colglazier’s vehicles each suffered $10,000 in damages.

Richer’s vehicle was a total loss.

Tobar’s vehicle suffered $5,000 in damages.

North Newton Street was shut down for approximately 30 minutes and reopened.
