Sleeping in the old Family Video Store in Jasper landed a Huntingburg man in jail over the weekend.

Jasper Police received the call around 3:30 pm on Saturday, September 11th.

After arriving on the scene, police found a male subject sleeping in the building using a whiskey bottle as a pillow.

He was woken up, escorted out of the building, and refused to identify himself.

While being detained, he refused to cooperate with the police and become combative with officers.

After being handcuffed, police found an Indiana ID, identifying him as 34-year-old Steven Eveland.

Police believe he would not identify himself because of outstanding warrants through Dubois County for domestic battery and invasion of privacy.

Police then interviewed witnesses and learned that Eveland also destroyed property belonging to Highland Ventures, the parent company for Family Video.

Eveland was then booked into the Dubois County Security Center for criminal trespass, criminal mischief, public intoxication, resisting arrest, and for outstanding Dubois County warrants.
