On the night of May 28, 2025, the Washington Police Department responded to a series of incidents involving property damage and a vehicle crash.

At approximately 11:10 PM, officers were dispatched to a residence on Vine Street after receiving reports of a window being shot out. Witnesses provided a description of the suspect vehicle; however, initial attempts to locate it were unsuccessful.

Later, around 2:20 AM, officers returned to the same residence following another report of vandalism, this time involving an object thrown through a different window. During this response, the suspect vehicle was found crashed into a tree within Oak Grove Cemetery, unoccupied. An extensive search of the surrounding area ensued, but no individuals were located at that time. A detective from the Washington Police Department was called in to assist with the ongoing investigation.

Subsequent efforts led to the identification and apprehension of a juvenile suspect. Due to the individual’s age, specific details regarding their identity have not been disclosed. Investigators determined that an air rifle was used in the initial incident; the weapon has since been recovered and seized.

Authorities have stated that there is no ongoing threat to public safety. The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the search efforts.
