Daviess Community Hospital (DCH) has expanded the reach of its Peer Recovery Services program, integrating Peer Recovery Specialists across all departments throughout the hospital and affiliated clinics. This systemwide initiative ensures that individuals struggling with substance use disorder (SUD) will have timely access to personalized support and recovery-focused care—right from their bedside or exam room.
Whether in the Emergency Department, inpatient care, outpatient clinics, or case management meetings, Peer Recovery Specialists will now collaborate directly with providers, nurses, social workers, and care teams to meet patients where they are and guide them toward healing.
“This integration represents a critical step forward in how we deliver compassionate, whole-person care,” said Katherine Gerren, LSW, CSPR-CL, CAPRC II, Program Manager for Peer Recovery Services. “Our Peer Recovery Specialists are not only certified professionals—they are individuals with lived experience in recovery. Their presence within our clinical teams allows us to offer empathy, understanding, and hope at the very moments patients need it most.”
As a Certified Supervisor of Peer Recovery – Clinical (CSPR-CL) and Certified Addiction Peer Recovery Coach (CAPRC II), Gerren leads a team uniquely qualified to walk alongside individuals through every stage of their recovery journey. With this expansion, Peer Recovery Specialists will be available to consult on patient care, provide education and resources, and serve as advocates for recovery within every corner of the DCH health system.
What Peer Recovery Services at DCH Offers
Peer Recovery Services at Daviess Community Hospital provides a personalized, supportive approach for individuals facing substance use disorder. Services include:
- Personalized Recovery Plans: Individuals work one-on-one with a Peer Recovery Specialist to create a recovery path that fits their needs and goals.
- Guidance & Resources: Specialists connect patients to treatment programs, mental health services, education, employment assistance, and more.
- Support for Loved Ones: Family and friends are given resources, education, and emotional support to better understand SUD and aid in recovery.
- Ongoing Encouragement: Peer Recovery Specialists offer continued support at every stage of the journey, helping individuals overcome barriers and celebrate progress.
“No one should have to go through addiction alone,” said Gerren. “By embedding recovery support into every patient care team, we are creating a system that recognizes the importance of healing the whole person—physically, mentally, and emotionally.”
