The American Red Cross is urging residents in Dubois, Spencer, and Perry counties to donate blood as multiple drives are scheduled now through April 12 to help maintain a stable supply for patients.
Officials say the need for blood remains constant, even as spring schedules, travel, and outdoor activities can reduce donor turnout. All blood types are needed, and consistent donations are critical to ensuring hospitals have the resources they need.
Several opportunities are available across the tri-county area. In Dubois County, drives will be held in Ferdinand, Ireland, and Jasper. Dates include March 31, April 2, and April 10 at the Ferdinand YMCA, April 9 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland, and additional drives in Jasper on April 2, April 6, and April 8 at locations including Jasper Church of the Nazarene, Jasper Middle School, and the Dubois County Health Department.
In Perry County, a drive is scheduled for April 7 at Perry Central High School in Leopold.
Spencer County residents will have opportunities to donate April 2 at Santa Claus Christian Church in Santa Claus and April 9 at South Spencer High School in Rockport.
As an added incentive, those who donate blood or platelets between March 30 and April 12 may receive a special Red Cross and Life is Good T-shirt, while supplies last.
Eligible donors must generally be at least 17 years old, or 16 with parental consent where permitted, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in good health. A valid ID is required at check-in. Donors can also save time by completing pre-donation health questions online using the Red Cross RapidPass system before arriving.
Appointments are encouraged and can be made by visiting RedCrossBlood.org, using the Red Cross Blood Donor App, or calling 1-800-RED CROSS. Walk-ins may be accepted based on availability.
