The police chief of the Town of Santa Claus has announced plans to retire after nearly two decades of service with the local police department.
Santa Claus Police Chief James Faulkenburg shared the news this week, saying his final day with the department will be May 22.
Faulkenburg has served the Santa Claus Police Department for nearly 20 years, helping lead the agency responsible for protecting the Spencer County community known nationwide for its holiday-themed identity.
During his time with the department, he worked alongside a team of officers and community partners to provide law enforcement services to residents and visitors alike.
In announcing his retirement, Faulkenburg said the decision came after many discussions with his family and a desire to spend more time with them after years of public service.
He described law enforcement as more than a career, calling it a rewarding opportunity to help others and serve the community.
Faulkenburg said he and his family plan to begin a new chapter by relocating to a warmer state. However, he noted that Santa Claus will always remain an important part of their lives.
With family members still living in the area, he said they expect to return often to visit the community.
Throughout his career, Faulkenburg worked closely with regional law enforcement agencies and community organizations while helping lead the department through years of service to the town.
Town officials have not yet announced who will take over leadership of the Santa Claus Police Department following Faulkenburg’s retirement.
