The Orange County Sheriff’s Department is warning residents about scam phone calls from individuals posing as law enforcement officers.

According to the department, callers have been contacting people and claiming they have a warrant for their arrest, then demanding immediate payment to avoid being taken into custody.

Authorities are reminding residents that legitimate law enforcement agencies will not call and request payment over the phone to clear a warrant or avoid arrest.

Anyone who receives a call like this is advised not to send money, provide personal information, or remain on the line.

The sheriff’s department is encouraging residents to remain alert and help spread awareness so others in the community do not fall victim to the scam.
