A coordinated response involving multiple law enforcement, fire and EMS agencies led to the safe rescue of an individual in crisis Tuesday evening on the William H. Natcher Bridge.
According to the Spencer County Sheriff’s Office, deputies from Spencer County, officers with the Rockport Police Department and deputies from the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and worked together during the critical incident.
Authorities said Rockport Police Officer Jason Henry was able to make contact with the individual and calmly talk the person away from the edge of the bridge. Following the successful intervention, the individual was transported by the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office to a local hospital for further evaluation and care.
Additional assistance during the incident was provided by Daviess County Fire Departments, Ohio Township Fire Department and AMR Ambulance Service.
The Spencer County Sheriff’s Office said the positive outcome was the result of strong teamwork, communication and compassion among all responding agencies. Officials also noted the incident highlights the importance of training and collaboration when responding to someone experiencing a mental health crisis.
The sheriff’s office thanked all responding personnel for their professionalism, quick response and commitment to protecting life.
