The American Red Cross is encouraging residents across southwest Indiana to roll up their sleeves and donate blood or platelets as the organization works to maintain a strong blood supply heading into the busy summer season. With Memorial Day travel and outdoor activities increasing the risk of accidents and emergencies, the Red Cross says blood donations are critical to ensuring hospitals are prepared to respond quickly to patients in need.
Dubois County will see several opportunities for residents to donate in the coming weeks, beginning May 22 at Shiloh Church in Jasper. Additional drives are planned May 24 at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church in Ferdinand, May 28 at the Schnellville Community Club, June 1 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper, June 2 at Seufert Construction in Ferdinand and Jasper Church of the Nazarene, and June 3 at the Habig Community Center in Jasper.
Neighboring counties will also host upcoming blood drives. In Daviess County, donors can give blood May 20 at Providence Mennonite Church in Montgomery and May 21 at the Daviess County Family YMCA in Washington. Spencer County residents will have the opportunity to donate May 26 at the Spencer County 4-H Youth and Community Center in Chrisney.
Pike County drives are scheduled May 27 at Patoka Township VFD Station 51 in Winslow and June 4 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Petersburg. In Perry County, a blood drive is planned May 29 at Perry County Memorial Hospital in Tell City.
The Red Cross says all blood types remain needed to help patients facing traumatic injuries, surgeries, cancer treatments, chronic illnesses and other medical emergencies. Donors who give blood through May 31 will receive an oversized Red Cross beach towel while supplies last. Those donating between June 1 and June 28 will receive a $15 e-gift card and will also be entered for a chance to win one of two $7,500 gift cards.
