A Jasper man was placed under arrest on a variety of charges over the weekend including felony counts of Causing Serious Bodily Injury While Operating a Vehicle and Operating While Intoxicated with Previous Convictions after he allegedly left the scene of a two vehicle accident that took place at a north side Jasper intersection Saturday evening.

Just before 10 o’clock Saturday night, officers with the Jasper Police Department were called to the intersection of Newton Street and Baden Strasse in reference to a personal injury vehicle accident.  When police arrived, they found a vehicle disabled in the intersection and found that a second vehicle had left the scene.

Witnesses told police that the vehicle that left the scene later found to be driven by 22-year old Steven Lang of Jasper rear ended the other while it was stopped at the red light in the southbound lane.

Witnesses say Lang’s vehicle then fled the scene.

The driver of the second vehicle was treated by Memorial Hospital EMS at the scene.

A couple of hours later, officers located Lang’s vehicle at his home along 4500 block of Downey Street in Jasper and identified Lang as the driver.

After further investigation Lang was found to be intoxicated and became noncompliant with officers. While being handcuffed, police say Lang repeatedly grabbed officers in a rude and insolent manner after being told to stop multiple times.

Lang was then taken to Memorial Hospital for a certified Chemical Test and for a medical evaluation.

Police say the preliminary results of Lang’s Chemical Test indicated that his Blood Alcohol Content measured at .304 percent, more than 3 and a half times the legal limit.

Lang was taken to and booked into the Dubois County Security Center on felony counts of Causing Serious Bodily Injury While Operating A Vehicle,
Operating While Intoxicated with Previous Convictions, Leaving The Scene Of An Accident Causing Serious Bodily Injury While OWI, Battery On Public Safety Official and Bribery.

Misdemeanor charges include OWI Over .15 percent and Operating While Intoxicated.
Jasper Police were assisted by Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services, the Jasper Fire Department and the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department.
