Joan J. Opel, age 64, of Huntingburg, passed away Friday, December 25, 2015, at her sister Della Mae Underhill’s home in Fredericksburg, Indiana.

She was born August 30, 1951 in Huntingburg, Indiana, to Norman and Lillian E. (LaJoie) Hubster.  Joan was united in marriage to Jeffrey D. Opel on August 19, 1989, in Land O Lakes, Florida.  She worked at Farbest Foods in Huntingburg; was a member of the Moose Lodge in Jasper and the Huntingburg Fraternal Order of Eagles; and was passionate about her dogs.  She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Beldon Hubster; and three sisters, Laura Wiesehan, Hilda Clarke and Frances Hubster.

She is survived by:

Jeffrey D. Opel of Huntingburg, Ind.;

One stepson,

Daniel Lee Doty of Dubois, Ind.;

One brother,

James Hubster of Hammond, Ind.;

Three sisters,

Della Mae Underhill of Fredericksburg, Ind.,

Brenda “Tootie” Bouillon of Jasper, Ind.,

Violet Thyen of Huntingburg, Ind.;

and one step granddaughter,

Nicaya Abigail Doty.
