Democrat Larry Volmer has announced his intentions to seek re-election as the district 1 representative to the Dubois County commissioners.

The 68-year old Vollmer attended Jasper High School and served two years in the United States Army, serving one year in Vietnam, where he received a citation for faithful and efficient performance of duty.

A farmer in Madison Township, Vollmer is a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland and a member of the Knight’s of Columbus. He is a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 673 in Jasper, past president of the Dubois County Veterans Council, and the American Legion.

He’s also a member of the Indiana Sheriff’s Association, Superior Ag Resources Co-op, Ireland Sportsman’s Club, Jasper Outdoor Recreation Club and Dubois County Museum.

He is currently serving as President of the Dubois County Commissioners and has served as president for 4 of the past 8 years. He serves the Dubois County Community Corrections Board and the Tri-Cap board of directors.

Vollmer in a release says among the reasons for running for re-election is that he would like to continue to keep Dubois County among the leaders in the state of Indiana. Vollmer says over the years, he’s worked well with local county and city officials and has always put the citizens of the county first.

Vollmer and his wife Mary have two sons and five grandchildren.
